The Alliance for Children’s Rights recently surveyed caregivers and service providers on the needs of caregivers and students during the ongoing school closures. Over 200 respondents shared with us the challenges they are facing while caring for children who are participating in distance learning.
Caregivers provided input and suggestions on potential trainings, extracurricular activities, special education guidance, and other support services needed to better assist caregivers/parents in helping the children in their care meet educational goals while participating in the virtual school year.

As the school year begins for most through distance learning, Alliance for Children’s Rights, Children Now, California Youth Connection, Loyola Law School Youth Justice Education Clinic, and National Youth Law Center have published a list of recommendations to support the education of students with unique needs including foster youth, youth in the juvenile justice system, and youth experiencing homelessness during distance learning.
