Arranging Caregiving During Family Separations

This webinar, presented by the Alliance’s Juan Guzmán, Director of Children’s Court and Guardianship Program, and Sydney Steinkohl, Director of Legal and Program Services, explores the legal options available to families who need to arrange caregiving for children during temporary family separations. The presentation provides an overview of the key differences between Juvenile Dependency Court, Probate Court, and Family Court, and how each court addresses caregiving and custody matters.

Participants will learn about the various non-court and court-based caregiving arrangements available in California, including the Caregiver’s Authorization Affidavit, Power of Attorney, and Probate Guardianship. The webinar offers practical guidance on navigating the legal system to ensure continuity of care for children.

Organizando el Cuidado de Menores Durante Separaciones Familiares

Este seminario web, presentado por Juan Guzmán, Director del Proyecto de Defensa en el Tribunal de Menores de la Alliance for Children’s Rights (Alianza para los derechos de niños), explorará las opciones legales disponibles para las familias que necesitan organizar el cuidado de niños durante separaciones familiares temporales. La presentación ofrecerá una visión general de las diferencias entre el Tribunal de Dependencia Juvenil, el Tribunal de Sucesiones y el Tribunal de Familia, y cómo cada uno aborda asuntos relacionados con la custodia y el cuidado de niños.

Los participantes conocerán las distintas alternativas de cuidado disponibles en California, tanto fuera del sistema judicial como a través de los tribunales, incluyendo la Declaración de Autorización del Cuidador, el Poder Notarial y la Tutela Legal. El seminario ofrecerá orientación práctica sobre cómo navegar el sistema legal para garantizar la continuidad del cuidado infantil.
