Karey Burke
President, ABC Entertainment
Karey Burke, president, ABC Entertainment, is responsible for all development, programming, casting, marketing, business affairs and scheduling operations for ABC primetime, late-night and daytime.
Since arriving at ABC in December 2018, Burke has developed some of the most critically acclaimed and widely viewed live television events, including the Emmy® Award-winning “Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons,’” as well as “The Wonderful World of Disney presents The Little Mermaid Live!” Under her leadership, ABC tied as the No. 1 broadcast network for 2019 (excluding sports) and regained the title as the No. 1 network for summer for the first time in 24 years, propelled by the No. 1 series of summer – “The Bachelorette” – and an expanded and successful “Summer Fun & Games” brand. Additionally, ABC has three of the top five new fall series – “Stumptown,” “Emergence” and “mixed-ish.”
Prior to ABC Entertainment, Burke served as executive vice president, Programming and Development at Freeform. In this role, she was charged with overseeing all scripted and unscripted development and current original programming, in addition to casting and talent development. Before Freeform, Burke partnered with director Todd Holland in Dark Toy Entertainment, producing “Free Agents” for NBC, as well as Matthew Perry’s comedy “Go On.” Previously, she joined Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg as the third partner in their company, Katalyst Films. Prior to joining Katalyst, she partnered with Jamie Tarses in an overall production deal with NBC Universal Television. From 1999 until 2003, she served as executive vice president of Primetime Series at NBC.
The Alliance for Children’s Rights is proud to celebrate Karey Burke and honor her with the Champion for Children Award, recognizing her longstanding support of our mission through philanthropic leadership and advocacy.
