SOCIAL WORK ASSISTANT

POSITION SUMMARY

The Alliance for Children’s Rights seeks a dedicated Social Work Assistant for our Caregiver Support Project and Caregiver Helpdesk, aiding our social workers providing front line support to caregiving families in the foster care and guardianship systems. The Social Work Assistant reports directly to our Social Work Program Associate Director. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

We are a nonprofit organization that provides free, holistic legal services and advocacy to youth and families impacted by child welfare and juvenile justice systems in Los Angeles County and works to advance policy change statewide. Our lawyers, advocates, and social workers, together with hundreds of pro bono attorneys and community volunteers, work together to ensure that those we serve have the tools to overcome barriers to stability and success and can access the education, healthcare, and financial supports they need. WHAT YOUR IMPACT WILL BE

Reporting to the Social Work Associate Program Director, the Social Work Assistant will:

  • Assist social worker in assessing clients needs
  • Assist with referrals to community resources and ensure access
  • Assists social worker with intake from Alliance programs and Help Desk.
  • Fulfills grant requests and responsible for financial reconciliation
  • Input and maintain relevant client information in database, including case closures
  • Maintain a current list of community based resources relevant to caregiving families
  • Performs other duties as assigned
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field required
  • 1-3 years of professional experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the child welfare system
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • Spanish fluency required
  • Demonstrated awareness of sensitivity to and competence in dealing with cultural and socioeconomic diversity of client population
  • Well organized, detail oriented and skilled with time/task management, able to adapt to frequent changes

  • Excellent written and oral communication and active listening skills
  • Familiarity with public benefits and community resources is preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and professionally with all community partners, children, caregivers, supervisor, and co-workers.
  • Strong computer skills, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

This position is assigned to our Los Angeles office, with in-person presence required at the Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court once a week and at the Court or our Los Angeles office as needed to facilitate training, client services, and departmental activities. Otherwise, the Social Work Assistant may elect to work remotely from home, although may be asked to return to work in the office at any time at the Alliance’s discretion.

Salary Range

This is a non-exempt, full-time paid position, with a target starting annual salary in the range of $50,000 – $55,000 DOE.
