Policy Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Policy Coordinator is a member of the Alliance’s Policy team, supporting strategic systemic reform advocacy across the Alliance’s areas of focus, to ensure our child welfare system is child- and-family-centered. Located in Sacramento, the Policy Coordinator will help develop the organization’s state and local government policy agenda and priorities, track legislation and regulations, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders and the public about the Alliance’s work. This is a non-exempt full-time position.

The Alliance for Children’s Rights is a nonprofit organization that provides free holistic legal services and advocacy to youth and families impacted by child welfare and juvenile justice systems in Los Angeles County, and works to enact policy changes statewide. Our lawyers, advocates, and social workers, together with hundreds of pro bono attorneys and community volunteers, work to ensure that those we serve have the tools to overcome barriers to stability and success, and access to the education, healthcare, and financial supports that they need. WHAT YOUR IMPACT WILL BE

The Policy Coordinator duties will include administrative and clerical support including bill and grant deliverables tracking; coordination of the Alliance’s policy projects, meetings and special events; meeting participation and public comment before various legislative and administrative bodies, and research and analysis of legislative and regulatory proposals, In addition, the Policy Coordinator is responsible for assisting in planning and leading trainings for partners and stakeholders, building and leading coalition efforts, and strengthening connections with Alliance partners. The position reports to the Vice President, Policy & Advocacy, while also providing team-wide support of substantial policy initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Vice President, Policy & Advocacy, the Policy Coordinator will:

  • Collaborate with policy and program staff and the broader child welfare advocacy community to identify and track child welfare practices and policies that impact our clients and help develop organizational priorities and responses to those practices and policies.
  • Identify, track, and develop analyses and recommendations for all relevant policy and budget bills and administrative or regulatory meetings, hearings, and guidance.
  • Research and draft position letters, issue papers, reports, fact sheets, newsletters, and information for other media including webpage and social media and grant reports.
  • Participate in coalition meetings and coordinate coalition activities.
  • Coordinate trainings and other special events including lobby days, webinars, summits, and conferences.
  • Administrative support including legislative and grants database and file maintenance, responding to email and phone inquiries, drafting meeting agendas, and processing expense and lobbying reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS
  • Bachelor of Arts degree required.
  •  Knowledge of the child welfare system and policies is beneficial.
  • Preference for candidate with one to two years of experience directly related to public policy, legislative advocacy or related experience.
  • Preference for experience with Capitol Track or other legislative tracking, advocacy, campaigns, outreach, public communications, and media.
Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor of Arts degree required.

COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS:

This position would work typically from our Los Angeles office. However, due to Covid-19, this position will temporarily work remotely from home. This position may be asked to return to work in the office at any time at the employer’s discretion. In office presence will be required as needed at the Director and employee’s discretion to help advance Adoption Program and general Alliance events, for training and collaboration with the Adoption team and to help manage Adoption cases.

Vaccination Requirement 

This is a non-exempt, full-time paid position, with target starting hourly salary of $28.20 up to $30.76 or an annualized equivalent salary of $55,000-$60,000 DOE. Salary Range
