ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF GRANTS AND PROGRAM OUTCOMES

POSITION SUMMARY

The Alliance for Children’s Rights is seeking a dedicated individual to join our Development and Communications Team as the Associate Director of Grants and Program Outcomes. The position reports to and directly supports the Director of Institutional Giving while also working closely with other members of the Development and Communications team. This is an exempt, full-time paid position.

ABOUT THE ALLIANCE

The Alliance for Children’s Rights is a nonprofit organization that provides free holistic legal services and advocacy to youth and families impacted by child welfare and juvenile justice systems in Los Angeles County, and works to enact policy changes statewide. Our lawyers, advocates, and social workers, together with hundreds of pro bono attorneys and community volunteers, work to ensure that those we serve have the tools to overcome barriers to stability and success, and access to the education, healthcare, and financial supports that they need. Since 1992, we have helped over 150,000 children. 

WHAT YOUR IMPACT WILL BE

The Associate Director of Grants and Program Outcomes will be an integral member of the Development and Communications Team and play a key role in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of our institutional funders by providing grant writing, prospect research, and grants management and implementation support to advance fundraising and the programmatic goals and mission of the Alliance for Children’s Rights. The Associate Director must be highly organized, possess strong communication skills, and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. They should be a positive and supportive team player and collaborator. The position requires a high level of demonstrated strategy development, problem-solving ability, and meticulous attention to detail.

In close partnership with the Chief Development Officer and Institutional Giving team, the incumbent’s responsibilities include:

Fund Development & Grants Management:

  • Establish and meet revenue goals for the institutional funding community (foundations, corporate foundations, and family foundations) and support the overall effort to grow this essential source of support for the Alliance
  • Oversee and manage an assigned portfolio of foundation funders, including relationship cultivation, writing, editing, submission, and stewardship
  • Draft, edit, and proofread written materials (e.g., LOIs, proposals, reports, budgets, briefing materials), and assist with tracking application and reporting deadlines
  • Research grant-related opportunities to present to relevant staff for their consideration, including new prospect research as well as program-related research to support the development of potential new grant-funded opportunities
  • Collaborate effectively with relevant staff to understand and describe a wide array of programs, and gather relevant data and information needed for proposal development, management, and reporting
  • Oversee and establish processes for tracking the development, completion, and organization of the formal paperwork and records required for grant execution, including grant agreements and MOUs (Memo of Understanding)
  • Steward relationships with assigned foundation partners, securing and coordinating pertinent information and meetings, and developing effective relationships with potential supporters
  • Partner with the Finance team to develop budgets, identify funding needs, ensure grant compliance, and supply information for audits and other reports to funders
  • Support the Chief Development Officer’s management of a portfolio of family foundation, corporate foundations, and major donors
  • Create and develop stewardship reports, cases for support, and other collateral to articulate the Alliance’s funding needs and impact

Program Outcomes:

  • Serve as a thought partner in each step of the grant-seeking process from ideation to proposal development to final outcomes and deliverables
  • Collaborate with program staff as necessary to develop evaluation methods, tools, and metrics needed to evaluate their project or program (including attending implementation meetings, developing surveys, and identifying and recommending processes and procedures that can best support the collection and presentation of program impact data)
  • Serve as the Development team’s liaison with program staff to track data and run reports from the client management database (LegalServer)
  • Monitor program achievement and restricted spending against grant goals for assigned foundations, as well as supporting the broader portfolio of foundation funders, as needed
  • Synthesize learnings, develop and present complex deliverables, and refine strategies to demonstrate efficacy and impact

EXPIRIENCES AND SKILLS
  • Commitment and enthusiasm about the organization’s mission and programs
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are required
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in grants management, program/project development, grant writing, budget development, and research
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, collaboration, and project management skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to understand and frame complex situations or opportunities and present options
  • Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat required
  • Raiser’s Edge or other database experience
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment
  • Experience assisting with developing and implementing program evaluations, analyzing data, and reporting preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred, with educational experience in evaluation methods preferred
  • Enjoy working independently and as part of a team

This position is a full-time non-exempt position, working remotely from home with occasional travel to our Los Angeles office as needed.

SALARY RANGE

This is an exempt, full-time, benefits-eligible paid position, with a target starting annual salary of $90,000 up to $100,000.
