Uplifting And Advancing Justice For Black Communities

uplifting black communities

One week ago, George Floyd was brutally suffocated at the hands of police officers sworn to protect the public. His is the most recent death of an unarmed Black man, in an appallingly long line of atrocities in communities of color by the very institutions intended to keep us safe. It is patently inhuman, and cruel. And it has been “enough” for too long.

At the same time, the death toll from COVID-19 in the United States has exceeded 100,000 and—due to inequitable access to health services and resources—Black and Brown communities are suffering disproportionately in this pandemic.

All of this is just cause for pain, for outrage, and for speaking out. As an Alliance, we strongly condemn the unequal conditions that continue to exist for Black communities in our country. And we are committed to continuing our work to advance justice and opportunity for marginalized children and young adults.

We can uplift Black communities and create lasting change by protecting the rights of the youngest among them.

THE REAL WORK STARTS NOW.
At the Alliance we have some powerful tools: our deft and passionate team of legal experts and our fierce determination. Every day, we are advocating for young people of color who need safety, stability, and justice. We are leading systemic reform in order to level the playing field and promote equal opportunity for children and young adults. We ask you to take action today by supporting this critical work.

MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT: Elections are coming in November and, now more than ever, your vote is indispensable. Register to vote if you haven’t already, and encourage your family members, friends, and colleagues to do the same.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD: Participate in the present and have a say in the future. Contact your city council members to speak up and sign petitions you support.

Thank you for being in this work with us. We are part of a collective effort to redress profoundly unequal conditions, by protecting and caring for marginalized children and young adults of color. Together, we need to listen, to speak out, to support each other, and to take meaningful action every day—creating equity and opportunity for our community’s young people of color to heal and thrive.

Black lives always matter.
