On Tuesday, August 20, the Alliance hosted a Friends of the Alliance reception and preview screening of SHORT TERM 12 at William Morris Endeavor in Beverly Hills. Cast Brie Larson, Kaitlyn Dever and Keith Stanfield participated in an insightful Q&A following the screening of the inspiring film. The event kicked off with a reception for people interested in joining the Friends of the Alliance — a group of individuals who are committed to raising awareness and funds for the Alliance through events and volunteer opportunities.
The event was a rare opportunity to bring filmmakers and foster care advocates together to start a conversation about how a film like SHORT TERM 12 can really bring foster care issues to the forefront. The intimate setting in the William Morris Endeavor screening room with 90 guests started a great dialogue that we hope continues as the film is released on August 23 and beyond. We encourage all foster care advocates to get out to the Landmark and ArcLight theaters to see this wonderful film!
SHORT TERM 12, called “Magnificent” by The Hollywood Reporter, has won numerous film festival awards including SXSW Audience & Grand Jury Awards, and the Los Angeles Film Festival Audience Award. The film explores the struggles of foster youth living in group homes, much like the lives of the youth the Alliance serves. The film is told through the eyes of Grace (Brie Larson), a 20-something supervisor at a facility for foster youth and at-risk teenagers. Passionate and tough, Grace is a formidable caretaker of the kids in her charge – and in love with her long-term boyfriend and co-worker, Mason (John Gallagher Jr.). But Grace’s own difficult past – and the surprising future that suddenly presents itself – throws her into unforeseen confusion. Cinedigm is distributing the film August 23 in Los Angeles and New York, with plans to expand in the coming weeks. Visit shortterm12.com for more information.
