Child Rights and Health in Latin America and the Caribbean

Since 2005, the Program of Social Sciences and Health at FLACSO is the coordinating center of the Initiative on Child Rights and Health (“Southern Cone Initiative”). This project is oriented to mainstream the rights approach into health policies, programs and services in the Region of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Initiative has the support of CRED PRO, Victoria University, Canada and is now integrated by Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay. Each of the participant countries conforms a local team for local implementation of the activities. These teams are integrated by policy makers, representatives of health professions (mainly pediatric societies), health practitioners (from various disciplines) and other stakeholders supporting at the local level (PAHO, UNICEF, PLAN International, among others).

Our main activities are oriented to health professionals based on the curricula developed by Jeffrey Goldhagen (SECH, US) , Gerison Lansdown (CRED PRO) and Tony Waterston (Royal College of Paediatrics, UK) adapted to the Latin American and Caribbean context.
